Canaan's original 1939 Sanford Pumper was given to the Berkshire School for Boys for fire protection. The School's
Insurance Company informed them they could no longer fight their own fires, so they then donated the Sanford to the NYS Vol
Fireman's Home in Hudson NY on April 1, 1990. It currently is on display at the museum.
The truck is a 6 cylinder, triple combination pumper, manufactured by Sanford Fire Apparatus Co. and purchased by the Canaan
Fire Company on March 31, 1939. It has a Continental Engine, 350 GPM, Hale "Dreadnaught" model S Rotary pump.
It carries 150 gallons of water. (This information provided by the Company and is so noted on the apparatus at
the "Home").
