In 1833, when Kinderhook Village was incorporated, a fire company was formed and an appropriation voted for the purchase of
a fire engine. In November of 1838, a fire engine and hose was purchased at a cost of $230. At the same meeting Engine
Co. No. 1 kept it's name and identity. Homer Blanchard was foreman and P. P. Van Alstyne second Foreman. In 1864,
the Village organized the Kinderhook Hook and Ladder Company, with a Mr Rainy elected foreman. The Palmer Engine and
Hose Company, the name of the current Department, was formed in 1883 with Robert Avery appointed the foreman.
The current station is located just north of the Center of the Village on Rt 9, 12106. Assigned County
ID #35, they are in the Fourth Battalion of the County System.
Current Fire Chief is Peter Hunter.
